Although the weather was cold and wet, it didnt stop the Presidents game from going ahead. A very special occassion for the Waiopehu team who had players coming back from Australia and the UK. The team had a set of jerseys especially made for their game, each jersey had the number 92 to printed on the back as 1992 was the year they had that magic season. The boys also took a team photo which they tried to replicate their 92 team photo.
Alot of emails and phone calls went into organising the Reunion and from the feedback I recieved during the day it was a huge success. Well done to Dan Harper and Hendrix Warren for their effort in making it possible.
The game itself was played in good spirit with lots of laughing and cheeky banter throughout the rain affected game. The HK Prezzies team was mainly made up of players who had worn the Jersey in the past. HK Centurion Paul Hirini who later in the day recieved his Centurion cap, had the opportunity play alongside his brother Peter, sons Luther & Connor, stepson Jamie and nephew Carter for the Presidents team. A fantastic way to mark his special day.
Thank you to all the players who took part in the day, also a special thank you to Richard Cornell for refereeing the game. Richard always adds to the day with his odd but very funny refereeing antics.
