Why hello semi finals…. We’ve had a big weekend of footy, with a few of our local lads lacing up for the New Zealand Heartland U20’s, while our Heartland boys were playing for a semi final spot in the Lochore Cup.
The Horowhenua Kapiti Heartland squad travelled up to Whitianga to take on a Thames Valley team that are on the back of some big margin wins. Our boys wanted to be the team to stop that trend, ultimately booking their spot in the Lochore Cup semi finals. HK started off strong, pouncing on a few of the Swampfoxes mistakes. In a bit of back and forth, our boys would go into halftime with a one try lead 21 – 14. Following on from the first half, HK dominanted the first 20 minutes of the second half getting out to a 38 – 14 lead, inevitably booking their spot in the semi’s, but it wasnt without a fight. Thames Valley would claw themselves back into the game bringing the score within 10 at 38 – 28, but a deep shot at goal late would seal the deal after another Thames Valley try, ending the game 41 – 35. A massive effort from our boys away from home to stage an upset and book a home semi final in the Lochore Cup. They’ll take on West Coast at the Levin Domain, with more information surrounding the semi to come out later in the week.
The New Zealand Heartland U20’s squad travelled to Waikato to take on the New Zealand Maori U18’s at FMG Stadium. Congratulations to George To, Jacob Keating and Mikaere Harvey on making the match day squad. Unfortunately, the team would go down 24 – 53, but an awesome experience nonetheless. UPTHENUA
