On Saturday 28 June, our very own Otaki School Rippa Rugby team represented our Union against the best from Wairarapa Bush, Martinborough Primary. Here’s what coach Makaore Wilson had to say:
“On Saturday 28 June, the year 5 & 6 Otaki School Rippa team represented Horowhenua-Kapiti at Westpac Stadium in Wellington. They played against Martinborough School, who were representing the Wairarapa Bush union.
It was a very tightly contested match with Otaki going up two nil early in the first half with tries to Maru Taiaki and Pedro Thompson. However Martinborough struck back with two tries of their own to make the score all level at half time. Half time score, 2 – 2.
The second half was very tight with both sides playing well. Shauna-May Jopson & Te Uhi Marsh-Williams both scored for Otaki. But unfortunately Martinborough managed to score in the last play of the game to take the match 5 – 4.
The kids thoroughly enjoy the experience, especially the atmosphere of being in the same arena as their rugby heroes. Watching the Canes defeat the Crusaders was a great way to finish the experience.”
