Hurricanes Under 16 Tournament
240 secondary school rugby players are making their way to the Capital for the Hurricanes Under 16 Tournament this week.
The franchise’s nine provincial unions will all be represented in the competition. Hosts Wellington currently hold both the Pool A and Pool B trophies. Competition will be tough, especially as the Hurricanes region selectors for the New Zealand under 17 high performance programme will be in attendance at the tournament.
Day one of the competition kicks off tomorrow with all matches played at Petone Rec this week. The teams will have a tournament dinner on Tuesday night before a rest day on Wednesday. Thursday will be the final day of play with the last round robin for pool A and the play off matches for pool B.
The youngsters will be treated to a visit from Mark Hammett, Motu Matu’u and Brad Shields on Tuesday night at the tournament dinner. It will be a special chance for them to hear how the current Hurricanes made it to the Super Rugby level today.
